Sharks Update: Oom Kartoffelkopf To The Resuce

Well, well, well! It seems there wasn't a whole lot of good news to come out of last night's A team game against the Cats, but at least the mystery of the "A.N. Other" in the B team has been solved. Seems a Samoan winger by the name of Alesana Tuilagi has flown in to help us out at short notice - all part of a unique agreement put together by our much-maligned Commercial Director, Herr Staaldraad himself!

It seems that the agreement allows for the transfer of players between ourselves and the Leicester Tigers on short notice - a deal that can only spell good things for Sharks rugby. Our young stars-in-the-making will no doubt benefit greatly from the opportunity to play in Europe. It's also comforting to know that we could conceivably call on a number of battle-hardened English tight forwards should the need ever arise. Now, if only a certain Mr Johnson were still on there books...

Nice going, Rudi!

OO NOTE

It seems that this Tuilagi fellow is a strapping dude, stats and photo from www.ercrugby.com

Sharks Spring Samoan Surprise
Posted on Wednesday, February 01, 2006 - 21:08

There was a surprise package at Olympia Park in Rustenburg in the considerable form of giant Samoan wing Alesana Tuilagi, who has joined the Sharks as part of an innovative exchange programme between the Sharks and Leicester, the prominent English club.

The 114kg Tuilagi arrived in the country on Tuesday and was given a second half run in the early game against the Cats second-stringers. He did not have many opportunities to impress, even though the Sharks were convincing winners of that match.

This innovative arrangement with Leicester was brokered by Sharks commercial manager Rudolf Straeuli and it allows for the Sharks and Leicester to loan each other players at short notice.

Tuilagi and the Sharks' pre-season signing, Daniel Farani, played for their country against England at Twickenham last November.

Can just think what kind of spin Keo will put on this.

Yes Martin Johnson would have been a bit of a nightmare- linked with Ackers & Fabio- maybe Niel Back to contest the deck

But then would you have blame the guys about geriatric taunts?

Will see I I can get a pick of this guy- it souns that he and Leota had shared a couple of dinners in the Grey Shytehole that St Mike calls "HOME"

My New Year's Resolution is not to let the bullshit Shark-bashing on keo get to me any more. It's not easy, but I'm trying.

I'm very keen to hear how young Strauss played, since it looks like has has the inside track on the 12 jersey.

Hi Rob

I added some notes to your post- hope you dont mind- seems useless to start another thread. Please comment

Some dirty laundry from the Sharks Official Blog

Sharks Blog

Its great to see the sharks involving great internationals in their Rugby set up. However, Brown is average; Tuilagi is relatively unknown. We need the likes of Tana Umanga, Martin Johnson and perhaps a few fijians 7's players to compliment our side giving it international flavour with new styles; ideas; diversity; expertise and they can assist with developing our younger talent. Remeber Thierry le croux (Sp.), Olivier Roumat??? We need to spend BIG on players cause if we mess up this season- no money next.

Can someone please teach the basics to the forwards. How can you be poor with Venter and vd Berg in your lineout.Last week the forwards weren't much better either. If we don't get this thing right we're going to get hammered all the way through the S14,maybe we should start looking at Spedding at 10 as well.Bring him of the bench against the Chiefs.

Dick please do not start with excuses now... we are definately in trouble and something should be done immediately.

So hear is how I see it.We are 9days from the biggest club competition in the world and we still don't know who is our first team.I sure love it if you oaks can put on the team that you think should face the chiefs and maybe we can help give Muir a few cluess to who should play where. It is not time to call 911 yet but if Muir doesn't get the selection right and sort the basics out NOW!We are gonna be dead in the water. My team will be:15.Pietersen 14.Russell 13.Rees/Murray 12.Strauss 11.Mentz 10.Percy/Spedding 9.Davidson/Pienaar 8.Breedt 7.Farani 6.Tyibilika 5.vd Berg 4.Venter 3.Botha 2.Bedenhorts 1.Carstens P.S there is no need in recruiting the best possible players and we can''t do basics.Coaching staff better sort all the problems out and quickly as well-you would've thought thats what they've been doing for the last 7weeks.

This guys is bad news...We are again in that fase where we forget the basics...I hope we won the fight...

Our defense is really pathetic. We need a truly world class defense specialist who can assist our backline to perform much more admirably. My question is : Why is the opposition still scoring tries!?! Do our Sharks players have butter fingers!?! We really need help urgently before the start of the Super 14 against the Chiefs otherwise there might be a Spear in the works next season.

it is really frustrating to see our rugby deteriorate like this, some of us saw it coming and some of us remained hopeful but if we cannot lift our or step up to the next level the guys will have a rude awakening when they get to the first match of the Super 14. My question to management is where is Campo, trueshark, I would put Percy at Fullback rather as this is his position and he knows it better than anyone else on the team it will hopefully also help with our last line of defence.

If it is the defence that's bothering then why don't we just get Lem in to help them.It was him who told Mac back in the days when they also had a defence problem-just tackle the holy grap out of them. That worked just fine,so can someone please get him.I personaly think the forwards is the problem and I don't mean the talent we have but the coaching.
Posted by trueshark on Thursday, February 02, 2006 - 07:50
Valid point but whose gonna be your 10 Suart Little,Spedding?Either way I don't think they should've started with him there at the beginning of the season and now only him and Spedding played in the warm-ups.
Posted by trueshark on Thursday, February 02, 2006 - 07:54
yes leave spedding there, do not interfere with Percy at fullback, it is his position and if we take him out then we are messing up his game and creating a weakness at fullback. We need him to control proceedings from the back whether it is kicking or whether it is running at pace and joining the line.

I saw the game last night. It wasn't pretty. It was though our boys we to far away form the coast. Handling errors, aimless kicking, that resulted in the Cats scoring- and then the bully attitude to pick a fight at ever breakdown? As trueshark says 9 days to go. CAN WE PULL IT OFF?
Posted by Jacques on Thursday, February 02, 2006 - 08:04
This is not good enough. WTF is happening? Dick, I hope you have your head around all of this.
Posted by x-fire on Thursday, February 02, 2006 - 08:19
It would be great to have Dick commenting on our situation prior to the start of S14. Coach's pre-season overview. Pse forward this message
Posted by Gerhardt on Thursday, February 02, 2006 - 09:42
guys we should'nt just put the blame for our performance on Dick, it is the management (BVR+RRR) who is involved in the procurement of the right players and the coaching staff or lack thereof.

Lol

"Spear in the works next season"

Thanks OO - no worries at all.

I for one am not going to panic about a 7-point loss in a meaningless warm-up game, when we didn't even play our full-strength side to begin with.
